Exercise Treadmill - The Do’s and Don’ts

February 16, 2009 · Filed Under Treadmill Workout

Treadmills, without a doubt are one of the most popular fitness equipment to get in shape right now. These are so popular that at times when a gym gets crowded, you actually have to wait your turn on the treadmill and limit your workout to just 30 minutes to make way for other gym members.

What’s great about exercising on treadmills is that you end up sweating a lot even just for 30 minutes while helping build muscle in your lower body.  Also, exercise treadmills – whether its elliptical treadmills, crosswalk treadmills etc. are so easy to use, it does not take a rocket scientist to figure out how to operate this user-friendly fitness exercise equipment. However, you should also be wary of not abusing your treadmill usage, here are some basic exercise treadmill do’s and don’ts:

• For treadmill newbies and those who have not been exercising much – or at all before stepping on that treadmill, just start slow. Yeah you see people running fast on the treadmills and you don’t want to feel like a wuss for practically just walking on the treadmill but the thing is, they are already treadmill pros and you are not. Before you even think about going to the next level, make sure that you are already comfortable with the most basic treadmill level first then slowly work your way up. A lot of treadmill newbies make the mistake of cranking up the speed of the exercise treadmill and they are often caught by surprise making them end up looking like a fool in the gym. But aside from this, a too-fast treadmill is actually also quite dangerous and you just might end up getting yourself hurt. So just start slow for now.

• To make your exercise on treadmill more enjoyable, make sure you bring along your iPod – preferably the non-bulky one, to keep you entertained. While listening to music or an audio book, you won’t even realize that your 30 minutes on the machine is already up making your exercise treadmill session a more pleasurable experience.
